What is the main question concerning space-time, if one avoids philosophical discussion and focuses on the laws of physics?

The main question concerning space-time is whether or not the laws of physics actually let space-time warp in such a way that a spaceship could travel back to its own past. For this question there seem to be three general answers, none of which fully satisfy the question.
