The Sibylline Books represent both the power and dangers of knowledge. As a source of prophecy, the books are some of the most powerful objects in this novel’s universe. They hold the future of thousands of lives, and may even determine who lives and dies based on who holds it. However, knowing the future is also a curse as one may be unable to cope with an inescapable future, or inexplicably bring it about themselves.
