The scene that exemplifies K.'s failure to understand what is happening to him, despite his best efforts, is the conversation with the Bank President and the Italian Businessman. Despite his knowledge of Italian, K. cannot understand the client's dialect and he is bothered by the client's lips being obscured behind a mustache.
