The only criticism that has been made against the writing style of this novel is Bridal's occasional slips into a type of proselytization, a seeming attempt to persuade the reader to accept certain beliefs. As the story unfolds, Bridal occasionally ventures into political discussions between her characters. Sometimes these sections read as if she is trying to convince the reader rather than relate a discussion between two characters.
