Analyse the ways in which the trope of the storm is a key to our understanding of The Tempest.

A tempest is a violent storm. Prospero conjures one up to sink a ship. On the ship is Antonio, Prospero's brother, and other various people responsible for stealing Prospero's dukedom. They all end up scattered on the island. Essentially the storm is the catalyst for what happens in the play.
