The Safflower Princess has not been faring well since Genji left for the Suma coast. The Safflower Princess relied on Genji for financial support, and during Genji's exile, he was not able to send her any money. When he returns he finds that she is very pale and thin, even more so than before. Even her pretty hair, her only lovely feature has become stringy and sallow.
