When Hinton learned that his appeals had been denied, he pulled Lester aside during a visit. He asked Lester not to allow his mother to mortgage her house if Perhacs would call. Hinton told Lester that when they gave him an execution date, he did not want Lester or anyone else watching him. Lester could bring his mother for a visit and then take her to a hotel to spend the night. After Hinton was gone, he wanted Lester to tell her he was gone and that he loved her. He told Lester to remind her that like she always said there was a time to live and a time to die.
