How was Hinton hurt when he worked in the mines?

Hinton worked in the mines after high school, because he could not get a high-paying job. One day when he was working, a rock fell from 20 feet above him. It sliced through his face and sliced off part of his nose. He had a concussion and he had to get 22 stitches.
