How is Jared feeling when he comes back downstairs, what does Mallory tell him and how does their mother hear them? What does their mother tell the children?

Jared is excited and wants to tell his siblings immediately about the library and the strange message he received, but is cautioned by Mallory to be quiet. Jared shows Mallory the paper he got upstairs and tries to tell about the message scrawled in the dust. This creates too much noise, and their mother comes out again. Mother sees Mallory holding Jared by the shirt and warns the children to stop roaming around the house, and threatens to lock them in their bedrooms.
