How does Jared get back downstairs?

Mom goes upstairs to sleep. Jared is scared and hears a noise, but it is only the dumbwaiter again. Jared hears his sister telling him to get in the dumbwaiter, and he gets in it and quickly is taken back to the kitchen downstairs.
