One allusion that comes up throughout the novel is to Stephanie Meyers’ Twilight franchise. Lina talks about it with Aaron and says, “I still can’t believe you’d be a vampire over a werewolf, by the way” (519). Lina’s obsession with pop culture is one of the quirks that endear her to Aaron. It is also something she bonds over with Rosie, as they constantly reference popular television shows such as Game of Thrones.
