Who is Jim Guyer from The Soul of a New Machine and what is their importance?

Jim Guyer is one of the group's computer engineers. He is from the Boston area and is a bachelor. After graduating from MIT, he went to Northwestern for a year of graduate school and then went to work for Data General where he has been for three years at the time of the debugging.
