What happens to Oliver and what is the result of the conflict? How does Roland react?

Oliver is run through by a Saracen and is mortally wounded. As Oliver lay dying, he becomes blind and begins to hallucinate. Oliver thinks Roland is a Saracen and tries to kill him but does not even place a blow. Roland and Oliver make amends and Oliver dies.
