What were John's feelings on coyotes?

John liked coyotes and hated having to shoot them to protect the sheep. When John was a child he had a pet coyote that he kept tied up in his grandparent's yard. He was very sad when he came home one day and found that his grandfather had gotten rid of the coyote because he didn't think it looked right to have a predator tied up in the yard.
