In Chapter Eight, Billy mentions that Eddie and the Reverend are like speeding trains speeding toward head-on collision. The crash he describes is a metaphor for the uprising that is about to take place between Eddie and Reverend Tartar over Tartar's religious beliefs and tyrannical methods of discipline.
