In Act II, Scene II, Gorgeous's misadventure with the expensive shoe represents the dangers of putting on a false mask or face that doesn't reflect one's true personality. Neither Gorgeous' shoes or the expensive clothes she receives as a gift reflect who she really is. Thus, when her shoe unexpectedly breaks, it serves as a symbol of how fragile and unreliable masks can be.
