Attean, to say the least, is uncooperative in his first reading lesson. Explain his behavior and the feelings behind this behavior.

Attean does not like being in a cabin full of things that represent a group of people he disrespects. Furthermore, he does not want one of these people (whites) teaching him a language that is his conquerors' language. He is proud of who he is and it is hard for him to accept the white boy in a position of authority.
