In contrast to her brother and sister's behavior, Olivia respects her mother as a person. Olivia receives bad news about Cosmo and immediately travels to be with her mother when she delivers the news. Olivia is not at all concerned with selling the Stern paintings, but instead about her mother, while simultaneously respecting her strength and independence. By bringing a man that she is not very close to by her mother's house, she shows that she keeps every aspect of her life open to her mother and appreciates her opinion.
