In the Sea of Monsters, when Percy has Polyphemus down and is about to deliver the killling blow, he finds that he can't do it. He reminds him too much of Tyson, whom he believes to be dead. He doesn't think that Polyphemus is responsible for turning out as badly as he has. He has mercy and lets him up. This act almost gets him killed.
