In The Sea of Monsters, the second in the Percy Jackson series, Annabeth has heard that to hear the Siren's songs could provide information and wisdom to the listener. She has Percy tie her up to the mast when they come within hearing distance of the Sirens. This backfires because the lure of the song is too strong and Annabeth breaks her ropes and jumps into the water. Percy has to go after her and snap her out of the trance that she is in.
