What is the main conflict in The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne?

The major conflict in the story is Chillingworth's failure to join his wife in Boston, Hester's subsequent pregnancy and shaming, and Chillingworth's desire to punish or exact revenge aginst the father os Hester's child.
