The Scarlet Letter How do most of the townspeople regard Hester's punishment- as too severe, too lenient, or appropriate? Asked by bookragstutor 13 years ago 11/28/2012 8:47 AM Last updated by anonymous 12 years ago 12/23/2012 12:33 AM
Most of the townspeople in The Scarlet Letter believe that Hester's punishment was too lenient. The penalty for the type of crime she committed was death, and yet, she was not given that punishment.
