How does the author use foreshadowing in The Running Dream?

In Part I. when Jenny returns home, things are familiar, but they are different. Kaylee visits with her friends, but the atmosphere is very strained. Jessica finds herself sounding angry and annoyed even though she doesn't mean to come across that way. She retreats, alone with her pain medications, foreshadowing problems yet to come.
