what is sally purchasing in chapter 14? what happend?

In Chapter Fourteen, Sally asks Trembler if he can procure a gun fpr her. He comes back with an old fashioned gun that Sally is not sure will even work. The gun is very inaccurate compared to her old pistol, but she needs to replace it after it is stolen.
