Why doesn't Tilly send word home that her brother is still alive in Chapter Thirteen?

Tilly considers sending a letter home telling everyone there that Noah is alive, but Delphine says that Calinda, for one, would never believe it, since she had seen death in her fortune-telling cards - a coffin being shipped up the river to the family home.
