Cass's tears when she sees Noah, foreshadow his eventual, inevitable injury.

The reference to visions also foreshadows Cass's sudden, growing, secure friendship with the similarly gifted Calinda, and the calamitous role that such visions play in the disintegration of the family, specifically, in Chapter Thirteen.
