What makes Frau (Hanna) Schmitz so angry in Chapter 8?

The narrator, Michael Berg, says his if he wants to make up the past year in school, he would have to work "like an idiot." Michael then tells Hanna that he has been skipping classes in order to be with her. Hanna tells Michael he doesn't know what idiotic is.
