Where had Julia planned on going for her short vacation? Why did she not get to go on leave?

Julia had arranged to go to her father’s farm for a little rest and fresh air but then had to send him a telegram at the last minute explaining that her leave was cancelled. She could not be spared, since so many nurses—including Matron herself—had come down with the grippe.
