Why is Max kneeling in the beginning of act 1, scene 4?

When Leo left the office in act 1, scene 2, Max was kneeling in prayer, hoping for guidance or a sign that producing a flop was the way to go. When Leo returns to Max's office after quitting his job, Max is still praying when Leo announces he plans to join up for him. This shows that, somehow, the answer to Max's prayers has come to him. In other words, Leo's arrival is the sign Max needs.
