What has happened throughout the day that forces Leo to quit his job?

Leo early met Max, a man he idolizes for his former glory as a Broadway producer. He inadvertently gave Max the idea to produce the worst Broadway play ever in order to make money, a move that Max urges Leo to join him on. Finally, when Leo returns to his office, he is berated by his boss for being slightly late. In an elaborate fantasy sequence, Leo decides to quit his job and join Max in his venture.
