Max and Leo plead with Roger to direct Springtime for Hitler, though Roger is afraid that the show is too dark and gritty for him. In his mind, theater must always be campy and lightweight or "gay," as Leo suggests. As Max encourages this vision, Roger calls in his production team and they begin to formulate different ideas for the show. The clincher of the deal comes when Max mentions casually to Roger that this show could win him the Tony, the highest award in theater.
