What was part of Hitler's motivation to invade Russia? Why? Was he successful?

Baku oil was part of the reason behind Hitler's aggression toward Russia. Control of Russian oil would give Germany a huge advantage. Germany had been importing oil from Russia so taking over control would give Hitler unlimited access. While Hitler found some success in his aggression toward Russia and gaining control of the oil, ultimately he failed in his quest, in part due to a lack of oil.
