In what parts of the world did oil drilling and production take place? Where were some of the challenges that oil companies faced in these regions and countries?

Some companies turned to oil fields in Borneo, Romania, and Russia, among other places. In Russia, a corrupt government made things difficult. During ethnic conflict, drills and derricks were set on fire. The West tended to look at places other than Russia to find oil unless they had no other choice.
