Who is Lana Weinberger from Princess in Pink and what is their importance?

Lana Weinberger is the head of the prom committee. She is also Mia's nemesis. Lana refuses to hire Skinner Box to play at prom until prom is cancelled due to the strike, and Mia insists they can only hold the prom on the observation deck of the Empire State Building if Lana allows Skinner Box to play. Lana agrees reluctantly, but her prom night is ruined by her boyfriend's obnoxious behavior.
