What does Borden describe in Section 4, Part 2 about the act accompanying his New Transported Man trick?

In Section 4, Part 2 Borden explains that he builds up his machine in a way intended to frighten the audience, reminding them of past tragedies that have taken place due to electrical equipment. An assistant then brings out two dark-brown gauntlets for him to handle the wires. She also brings out a large cabinet and then scurries off the stage as though she were afraid. Truthfully, however, the machine only emits sparks and noise but nothing of any danger.
