What does Angier do with his extra time when he is performing near the town Hastings, prior to his American tour?

Prior to his tour in America, Angier is invited to perform for two weeks in a town near Hastings where Borden was born and grew up. Angier makes several notes on what he discovered in his research in Hastings, but primarily, he discovers that there was no twin nor a brother that could have passed as one. As such, he vows he will discover Borden's secret while he is in America, and within one month of his return, he will perform a superior version of it.
