Who is Captain Fellows from The Power and the Glory and what is their importance?

Captain Fellows is an English businessman in Mexico, he runs a banana business. His wife and daughter live on a remote farm. His daughter, Coral, allows the priest to stay in their barn unknown to Captain Fellows. At the end of the story he and his wife are heading back to England and it is implied that their daughter has been killed.
