Why does Jack invent an ingenious cloth felter for Aliena?

Aliena's cloth-weaving business is prosperous but none of her employees want to undertake the arduous task of felting the wool. Jack develops an easier way to felt wool that did not require back-breaking labor in order to help Aliena's business.
