The quiet, vulnerable Ella Crook is a member of the Persian Pickle Club, under the particular care and attention of Mrs. Judd, especially when the murder of her husband Ben is revealed. Ella is an intriguing character, in that when the body is first discovered, she goes into a kind of shocked, grieving withdrawal, as if she knew nothing about the circumstances of his death. Later, as the truth about the involvement of the Persian Pickle Club in the murder becomes known, it becomes evident that she's known all along what happened.
