There are two main characters in The People of Sparks. Doon Harrow and Lina Mayfleet are the two teens who led their people out of the underground caves into the above world. They continue in this novel as the protagonists. Doon is very curious and likes to tinker with things. He is scientifically minded and loves the magnifying glass that Lina gives him. He can build just about anything. Lina is very opinionated and independent. She has a sense of her own destiny and takes it seriously. She is the one that drives home the questions about war.
