What is the author's style in The Penultimate Peril by Lemony Snicket?

The author's syle is appealing to children.... he is conversational and witty, and the novel is easy to read, as well as a vocabulary builder. Snicket often uses difficult terms, but there's no need to have a dictionary on hand.... he defines them within the text.
