Yellow fever causes instant panic in comparison to other tropical diseases, appearing in waves and then disappearing before coming back. Yellow fever victims suffer shivering and thirst, as do victims of malaria. But they also incur savage body and headache. In 50% of those infected there is a subsiding before they turn yellow. They subsequently spit up blood and their bodies cool. Then they grow sedate and within 8-10 hours they die. Their bodies are buried as fast as they can be.
