Dutch Waggoner appears in the story, No Harm Trying. He is a director at the studio where Pat works, and Pat has known him for many years. Pat and Dutch grumble together about the politics in Hollywood, after which, Pat gets an idea to write a script and to have Dutch direct it. After dealing with numerous obstacles, Pat finds out that Dutch is only on contract because he is the cousin of one of the executive's wife. He never knew about his drug problem, or the fact that the problem causes him to be unreliable during the filming of his movies.
