What does Odile learn about Paul and his family when they take a walk in Chapter 10?

Odile and Paul take a walk. He is leaving the next day for Brittanny to help on his aunt's farm. As they walk by the station, he tells her that his family used to live a block away until his father left when he was seven. He tells Odile that his mother said that his father had taken a long trip on a train.
