What makes Ponyboy recite Robert Frost's poem, "Nothing Can Stay Gold"?

Johnny and Ponyboy are enjoying the sunrise..... the morning mist. Johnny remarks that he wished things could be that way all of the time, as Ponyboy is reminded of the poem.... "Nothing gold can stay."
