John Wesley tells Sylder about how all of his traps were confiscated and he had been threatened by Gifford. He was told that he was trapping without a license and that he could be charged for aiding a criminal, too, since the man he helped out of the car was a bootlegger. Gifford implied that if the boy gave him some information about Sylder, the charges might be dropped.
