After about a week, Ownby finally shows up at the store and Gifford arrests him. Ownby does not resist but only pleads with Gifford to allow Scout, his dog, to come along. He even tries opening the doors on Gifford's cruise to let Scout in, but Gifford refuses and threatens to add resisting arrest to the rest of Ownby's charges. Scout watches in the distance as the car, with his owner in it, leaves him behind.
