What is the main plot of the story?

The main plot of The Old Man and the Sea revolves around an old fisherman named Santiago. Santiago has not caught a fish in 84 days, and he goes out one last time with the hopes of catching a Marlin. He sees this final challenge as a chance for redemption.... a chance to feel vital one more time.
