When the Hempstocks realize that the narrator’s parents are coming, they think what they can do to divert them. Ginnie says they could arrive last Tuesday when they weren’t home. Old Mrs. Hempstock considers turning the boy into something else, so they couldn’t find him. Lettie suggested they snip and cut out time in order to amend the situation.
