Why does Ashley plot revenge against Rebecca Kennedy in the novel, The Night in Question?

When Ashley does a genealogy project for school and discovers that her mother is the daughter of the famous actress, Mona Moody, she becomes enraged that a life of wealth and celebrity was stolen from her by Eugene Kennedy and Charles Levy. Ashley plots to attack Rebecca Kennedy and steal back her grandmother's priceless necklace.
